In case you didn’t hear this today:
It would be such a shame if you’d never get to see how beautiful you are. So love yourself, take care of yourself and be yourself.
I don’t know your story or your dreams or the things that steal your sleep, but I know they matter. I hope your story is rich with characters, rich with friends and conversation. I hope you know some people who will carry you, and I hope you have the honor of carrying them. I hope that there is beauty in your memories, and I hope it doesn’t haunt you. And if it does, then I hope there is someone who will talk you through the night and remind you of the promise of the sunrise, that beauty keeps coming, that there are futures worth waiting for and fighting for, and that you were made to dream.
If you see beauty in something, don’t wait for others to agree.
So I’m in uni today, having lunch with two friends at the uni’s cafe. We spot a free table and go there to sit and eat and whatever but there are just two chairs, and all the other ones are taken. So I let them sit and just keep on eating, I mean, it wasn’t that big of a deal.
In the mean time there’s this woman standing in front of a one-chair-only table next to us, head down on her phone, backpack leaning on the table.
Few minutes later she’s gone so I take the free seat and bring it to our table, but then suddenly the woman appears again with a cappuccino in her hands glancing at the table with no chairs left - the one I took the seat from, where she was leaning her backpack just before that. I instinctively just stand up and offer her the chair again so she can sit and have her cappuccino, because, I thought, she found the table first and just wanted to have that damn cappuccino - in addition to the feeling of being a complete thief. She says “thank you” like a million times and finally sits to drink.
Just before leaving the cafe, the woman comes to our table with a check paper, saying she’s offering the three of us a cup of coffee because we made her day with what we did and I literally feel like crying and so happy because it was such a small thing but she was so grateful and I just live for these moments and people and this is a reminder to be kind to everyone because kindness always comes back.
It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.

Today…
It’s also what my mother has instilled in my sisters and me so much, that joy comes from the smallest things,“ she says. “And if you don’t see joy in a perfect avocado or in a great conversation or in running into a friend or getting a job – if you don’t see joy in a perfectly beautiful tree in autumn – then you are missing your chance at happiness. Because if you don’t find it in the small things and you only wait for big moments, then you’ll just not be a happy person.
When I asked people what they think it means to love, this is what I got…
“When the thought of not being with them hurts you. When you’re with them it feels like home.” -female, 19
“Someone who has your common interests. They care about how you feel in the morning and at night. They’re there to support you.” -female, 18
“When between two humans it is a glimmer of the love God has for us. To love someone is to open yourself up completely. Selflessly giving to them all that you have.” –male, 52
“When something good happens and you immediately want to tell that person. I think love is when someone’s company is better than your solitude could ever be. It’s when a flaw could not be less of a flaw” -female, 20
“To give them all of you, it’s more than an emotion, it’s a choice, & you don’t just make it once. You keep on choosing.”-male, 22
“To be attracted to another person. Finding a liking to their personality. Someone who brightens your day every time you see them.” -female, 12
“A total gift of self. Denying yourself for someone else. Putting someone else first. It’s a sacrifice.” -female, 20
“It’s not a feeling. It shapes how we live. We express love through actions, words, charity and humility.” -female, 23
“The state of being happy for another person.” -male, 17
“To love is to feel like that person fulfills you, completes you, makes you happy in ways you never knew you could be.” -female, 19
“When you’re willing to put someone’s happiness before your own. You don’t truly love someone until you’re truly doing something just for them.” -male, 19
“A complete commitment to each other. Willingness to give a part of yourself to the other. You feel lucky to be with each other.” -female, 19
